Improving the lives of and preventing cruelty to domestic and companion animals through humane education, shelter, and uniting pets with families. |
| Adopting a Pet: | |
We welcome you to come and visit the shelter to spend time
and hopefully adopt a new friend for life.
Although we do not post all of the available animals,
you may view some of their photos and profiles online at
![]() Please note that not all of our pets ' profiles are available online. To speed up the adoption process, download our adoption application. Please present your completed application in person or fax it to (765) 454-0082. Mailed applications are not accepted. We welcome your interest in our animals, and it is our policy to offer "hold service" when possible. Animals can be held for 48 hours with a $25 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit which is applicable towards the adoption fee. After 48 hours, the animal will be placed back up for adoption. If you are traveling in the hopes of adopting one of our pets, please call ahead to ensure the animal you wish to adopt has not already been adopted.

| Kokomo Humane Society "Neuter Before Adoption" Policy | |
|
Thanks to a cooperative effort with local veterinarians, the
Kokomo Humane Society guarantees that all adopted
animals will be spayed or neutered before they go to their new home. Upon approval of the adoption application, the Kokomo Humane Society will make an appointment with the adopter ' s chosen veterinarian. The Humane Society will transport the dog or cat to the vet, where the animal will be altered. After completion of the surgery, adopters may pick the animal up at the vet ' s office. This will allow the veterinarian to meet and speak with the adopter. In the past, our adoption fee did not cover all veterinary fees associated with the spay-neuter surgery. Part of our new agreement with the veterinary community lets us pay the cost of the anesthetic and spay or neuter procedure, pre- and post-operative analgesic, and overnight hospitalization. Your chosen veterinarian will let you know if there will be additional charges for health problems or necessary tests. We are comforted in the security of knowing that none of our adopted animals will contribute to the overwhelming pet overpopulation problem in Kokomo and Howard County by producing unwanted litters. Our thanks to our veterinary partners for their participation in this worthwhile venture.
